London: Kevin Pietersen, who returned to Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League’s auction at a price tag of $1.45 million,

is close to signing another major commercial deal despite his England exile.

Sportswear giants Adidas are in the process of agreeing the final details of a lucrative contract renewal with KP, who has worn their cricket kit and promoted their range of bats since 2008.

The deal is worth a lot more than KP’s current terms — even after being dumped by England. Pietersen will become a global rather than a UK ambassador for Adidas, with his new contract being run from India where Adidas base their worldwide cricket operation. The new arrangement allows Pietersen to maximise his involvement in the IPL — for the first time he is available for the entire tournament, no longer being bound by his England central contract.

Along with his upcoming IPL jackpot, the Adidas extension and his re-negotiated Surrey contract, Pietersen also has five publishers competing for his Christmas market tell-all book, which he is free to publish from October. What chance Piers Morgan being the ghostwriter?
