New Delhi: A brilliant unbeaten knock of 73 from 50 balls by Karun Nair saw Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old Rajasthan-born opener hit eight fours and two sixes as the Royals chased down a target of 153 with nine balls to spare. The win was Rajasthan’s fourth from six matches, while struggling hosts Delhi remain second from bottom of the standings with four points.

Nair had good support from Sanju Samson, who hit 34 from 28 balls, and captain Shane Watson, who hit two sixes in a late cameo of 16 not out.

Earlier, left-handed opener Quinton de Kock of South Africa was the top scorer for the Daredevils with 43 in a total of 152 for five, while his compatriot J.P. Duminy contributed 39 towards the end. James Faulkner and Pravin Tambe took two wickets each for the visitors.

Meanwhile, four people were arrested for running an IPL betting syndicate from a house here, police said Saturday.

Rakesh Sethi, 45, Bantu Nagpal, 33, Sanjay Hasija, 32, and Vishu Sethi, 22, were arrested from a house in Rohini area in west Delhi.

Police said Sethi, a mechanical engineer and kingpin of the syndicate, disclosed that he along with three others used to put bets on the ongoing IPL matches. They were also providing lines to several other bookies.

The accused were earlier operating from Sonipat in Haryana but the local police became suspicious about their activities and they decided to shift to Delhi.

Police have also recovered 40 mobile phones, one television set, a mobile signal booster, one laptop, a printer, a voice recorder and notebooks for entering the bets from their possession.

Three mobile phones were being used to convey betting rates to the bookies. The amount of money bet on the match to the time of the raid stood at Rs.25 lakh approximately. The gang had so far accepted bets of nearly Rs.1 crore in the ongoing IPL season.
