Mumbai: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma was fined Rs.12 lakh (Dh70,000) on Monday for his team’s slow over rate during Sunday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru.

MI beat RCB by 18 runs to clinch their first victory of the tournament, following four consecutive defeats.

According to an IPL release, considering it was his first offence of the season under the tournament’s code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rohit was fined the amount.

The 2013 IPL champions are currently seventh in the points table. They next play Delhi Daredevils in New Delhi on April 23.

Earlier, Rohit credited Mumbai’s top order batsmen for the win over RCB.

“I think the way we batted in the first few overs was good. We were positive throughout. Good to see the batsmen applying themselves and doing well,” Rohit said.

“Losing four out of four was tough to digest. The most important thing about this team is, we never thought we lost four.”

When asked what he thought about the Keiron Pollard-Chris Gayle camaraderie, Rohit said, “Both Caribbean players know each other really well, it was just some fun.”

Mumbai’s bowlers put up a decent show compared to the other games and Rohit added: “Lasith Malinga bowled pretty well, he wanted to prove a point against this strong line-up. Not only Malinga, even Bhajji [Harbhajan Singh] and Mitchell McClenaghan bowled well.”
