New Delhi: While allegations of extramarital affair made against Indian pacer Mohammad Shami by his wife Hasin Jahan continues to grab the eyeballs, their families are likely to meet soon for a possible out-of-court settlement.

On Monday, Shami appealed to his wife to patch up for the sake of the couple’s three-year-old daughter. “I request her to get over the past and start life afresh. The past few days had been very bad for everyone. I had to even skip practice. If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing can be better than that. Only patch-up will do good for us and our daughter,” Shami told media.

He said he always defended his wife in private or public, referring to attacks on social media by orthodox Muslims against Hasin’s style of dressing. “I always stood beside her and I don’t know why she is behaving like this now. I still believe that the issue could be resolved through talks,” Shami said.

The effort from both family members is to try for an out-of-court settlement.

Hasin’s lawyer Zakir Hussain confirmed the possibility of an amicable settlement as both families were keen on a patch-up. “Mohammad Shami’s relatives, including his uncle and aunt, are likely to come to Kolkata to have a meeting with me. They expressed their desire to meet so that the issues between the couple could be resolved. There are enough reasons for Hasina to expose Shami for his acts. We will try to find a way out so that everyone could live with dignity and peace,” Hussain told Gulf News.

Meanwhile, Jahan claimed that her husband would have divorced her had she not exposed him on social media.

“I tried to convince him that he should accept his mistake. I have been trying since very long. He would have run away to Uttar Pradesh by now if I did not catch hold of that mobile phone. He would have divorced me till now if I did not leak his chats with several women,” Hasin said.

She, however, said she may consider moving back with him if he accepts his mistake. “Shami is making up all sorts of things to save himself from allegations. Till the time I took to social media, I tried to convince him to save our marriage. If he tries to come back I may still consider,” she added.

Last week, based on Hasin’s complaint of domestic violence and infidelity, Kolkata Police booked Shami and four of his family members under various non-bailable and bailable sections.
