Dubai: A mechanical engineer from Nashik, who has no experience of coaching, is a surprise package as he has applied for the post of the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Thirty-year-old Upendra Nath Brahmachari has applied for the job as a mark of protest to the way Anil Kumble was treated by the BCCI.

He claims that he should be considered as he can adjust to the arrogant ways of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who ensured Kumble’s exit.

The application has stunned the BCCI and when Gulf News contacted Brahmachari, he immediately emailed a screenshot of his mail to BCCI and his photo while at work in his office.

In his email to Gulf News, he wrote: “I would like to inform you that I have applied for the post of Team India head coach and it is a protest. I didn’t like the way Anil Kumble was treated by BCCI and captain Kohli. He was humiliated because he didn’t toe Kohli’s line. My application is in protest against that.”

Though the guidelines for a candidate applying for the coach’s post clearly states that he should have successfully coached a cricket team of any of the member countries of the ICC, at the first class or at the international level, Brahmachari has no cricket background and played only school level cricket.

Brahmachari in his application states that he decided to apply for the post of head coach as he feels that the captain of Team India Kohli doesn’t need a legend as a coach. If the CAC selects any former cricketer as coach, he will also be insulted by Virat and the outcome will be the same like Kumble.

Former cricketers Virender Sehwag, Craig McDermott, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput and Tom Moody applied for the post. Strangely, the BCCI extended the deadline to July 9 forcing Rajput to remark: “It is humiliating. To have submitted the resume, to have been shortlisted and to be now told that fresh applications will also be accepted is highly unprofessional on the part of the BCCI.”

Meanwhile, Team India director Ravi Shastri, who got pipped by Kumble last year, confirmed on record that he has also applied for the post.
