Patna: A girl in Bihar allegedly burnt her friend to death shortly after the victim revealed she was raped by her brother. Both the accused and her brother are on the run.

In her dying declaration to the police, the victim, 18, a resident of Pirari village in northern Bihar’s Saran district, said she was raped by a local youth Manish Kumar while asleep on the roof of her home on July 8. According to her, after raping her, the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to tell anyone what happened.

However, the victim told the entire story to her parents leading to verbal duels between the two families.

On Friday night, the alleged rapist’s sister Jyoti Kumari went to the girl and asked her to go out with her. After travelling some distance from her house, the sister poured kerosene on her and set her on fire, according to the victim’s statement to the police.

Hearing her cries, her parents reached the spot and rushed her to a local primary government hospital where the police recorded her statement. However, finding her condition to be serious, doctors referred the victim to another hospital but she died on the way there.

“We have conducted the post mortem of the victim and the accused will be arrested soon,” the local Saran district superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar said on Sunday. According to him, the police are conducting raids to nab both the accused.
