Dubai: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team is an attempt by some terrorists working on agenda to render the future of Pakistan cricket in dark.

Khan, who is also Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and one of the main critics of President Asif Ali Zardari, condemned the attack and termed it an attempt of foreign elements working to defame Pakistan. Khan's party is preparing to show its strength by participating in lawyers long march demanding reinstatement of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on March 12.

In a statement issued to newspapers, Khan said that the government should intensify efforts to unmask the perpetrators of such a heinous act and bring them to book.

''All Pakistanis are grieved over the situation and share worries of Sri Lankans'', he said and also paid tributes to police officials who sacrificed their lives to save the foreign guests.

Khan during his recent visit to Dubai had told Gulf News that Pakistan cricket team should not play its home series at any other neutral venue. Pakistan is scheduled to play Australia in the UAE in April. Khan was not immediately available for more comments.
