Dubai: No batsman has terrorised bowlers like Shaimon Anwar of Yogi Group has done this season.
Off only 66 balls he hit his 11th century to steer Yogi Group to a spectacular victory over star-studded Fly Emirates in the final of the Debonair's Pizza Floodlit tournament at the ICC Global Cricket Academy ground.
In the Sharjah Cricket Council tournament, Anwar hit 2,500 runs in 25 matches.
The hard-hitting batsman opened the innings and scored exactly 100 with five huge sixes and seven fours.
The Fly Emirates attack, made up of many UAE national team bowlers, had no answer to Anwar's powerful hitting.
He, along with fellow opener Faizan Asif (30 off 15 balls) put on 47 in just five overs to set the platform for an impressive total.
After Asif departed, Anwar took charge and with Anub Inayat (55) put on 106 runs for the third wicket. Arshad Ali, who took three wickets for 48, checked the run flow yet Yogi Group piled on 224.
Bad start
Fly Emirates got off to a bad start, losing Mohammad Iqbal very early.
Arshad Ali sparkled with 39 runs and with Mohammad Imran (61) put on 96 for the second wicket.
However, the introduction of spinners Shadeep Silva and Sameer Nayak proved crucial, the pair taking three wickets each.
Yogi Group finished on a high in their seventh final of the season, with their third victory.
