Abu Dhabi: Rehman Gul smashed a blazing century as Thrifty Car Rental defeated Ferco by 52 runs in the opening round of the Midcom President’s Cup Division 2 Twenty20 Cup at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council grounds last week.

The opener carted the Ferco bowlers all around the park to score an impressive 136. His knock was studded with eight sixes and 15 boundaries at came from just 52 balls.

Riding on that knock from Gul, Thrifty Car Rental went on to post a mammoth 237 for seven. Ferco tried to put up a fight with Tousif Shah scoring 46 and Mushtaq Ahmad making 33. However, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 185.

There were three other centuries in the opening round from Lions’ opener Ruwan Chandrakumar, Health Authority Abu Dhabi’s Mohammad Zaman and Royal’s Mohammad Irfan. Ruwan Chandrakumar smashed an unbeaten 100 from 67 balls with six sixes and five boundaries.

He put on 85 runs for the first wicket in under 10 overs with Chathura Deshapriya (51) and then starred in an unfinished 131 for the second wicket with the captain Arunalu de Silva (40 not out).

In another encounter, Mohammad Zaman made an unbeaten 110 and also shared an unbroken 188-run stand with Suhail Chatta (94 not out) for the fourth wicket as Health Authority Abu Dhabi clinched a seven-wicket win over Royal.

Zaman hit a dozen fours and four sixes and Chatta struck eight fours and six sixes as the pair came together to knock off the winning runs with an over to spare. Mohammad Irfan had earlier smashed 106 not out in just 38 balls for Royal to put up a challenging 245 for seven.
