Sharjah: The clash between Gayan Steel and United Arab Bank in the Sharjah Ramadan Rufi Cup Twenty20 Cricket tournament produced the first ever bowl out at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The equivalent to a penalty shootout in soccer, the bowl out entertained the spectators who gathered to witness the exciting finish.
Gayan Steel, batting first, scored 172 for five through Haroon Rashid's 48 and Sajjad Butt's 43.
Steel could have piled on even more runs but for Kaif Gauri, who took two wickets for 26 with good support from Shahbaz Ahmad, who picked 2 for 24.
Arab Bank chased the total through Kaif Gauri, who hit a brilliant 97. Mumtaz and Aitamad Haq bowled well to take two wickets each and restrict Arab Bank to 172 for 6.
"If the match ends with the scores tied the winner can be decided only through bowl out.
"Five bowlers from each side delivering one ball each at an unguarded wicket.
"If the number of wickets is equal after the first five balls per side the bowling continues and is decided by sudden death," said Shah Hussain, who officiated the match.
"Steel and Bank ended the five bowlers round hitting the wickets twice each so it went to sudden death.
"Bank won the match in their third attempt," said Hussain.
