Dubai: The betting scandal involving Pakistan cricketers has taken a new turn, thanks to fresh revelations made by the British tabloid News of the World, which first exposed the scandal.

The tabloid has now revealed that a fourth Pakistan cricketer is being investigated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), though it has not named him.

The News of the World also posted footage of an interview with Pakistan opening batsman Yasir Hameed, filmed with a hidden camera. During the course of the interview, Hameed revealed that some of his colleagues fixed "almost every match". He also said that he was offered £150,000 (Dh851,074) by a bookie to fix a match.

Hameed has denied giving any interview to the tabloid.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's one-day cricket captain, Shahid Afridi, has issued a public apology on behalf of the three players suspended by the ICC on spot-fixing charges, while the Pakistan Cricket Board is working to exonerate the players.

The ICC has said that it will appoint an independent commissioner to determine the fate of the three accused.

New Zealand Cricket, whose team is scheduled to play matches against Pakistan in December, has expressed concern that fans may lose interest in the series.
