Umm Al Quwain: Golden Tower Metal Industries cricket team towered over all opposition in the Umm Al Quwain cricket tournaments to win two tournaments.

The Umm Al Quwain cricket association, which hosted four finals on the trot to complete their last season, witnessed a stupendous performance from Golden Tower as they bagged the Umm Al Quwain Premier Twenty20 tournament title and also the sixth Umm Al Quwain Twenty20 league title.

In the other two tournament finals, Nucaf Tellicherry emerged as the champions of the fifth Umm Al Quwain Municipality Premier Twenty20 league while Al Manal Development lifted the sixth Umm Al Quwain Invitation Premier League title.

Speaking to Gulf News, Mushtaq Ahmad, the UAQ Cricket Association General Secretary, said: “We are delighted to have hosted four keenly fought finals. These tournaments were spill overs from the last season and we have completed it to launch our new season with 16 tournaments.”

Golden Tower scored a comfortable five wicket victory over SPF Realty team in the Umm Al Quwain Twenty20 league through consistent performance from their batsmen Varun Ratnakar who cracked 54 runs and Adnan Arif’s 52 runs. They chased SPF Realty’s total of 178 for 9 in 20 overs and won the match with four overs to spare.

In the Umm Al Quwain Premier Twenty20 league final, Golden Tower defeated Globelink West Star Shipping by 35 runs through Amjad Gujjar’s fine all-round performance. After Golden Tower posted 209 for 5 in 20 overs through Gujjar’s unbeaten 65 and Waheed Ahmad’s 54, they restricted Globe Link to 174 for 8 through Gujjar’s deadly spell of 4 for 31.

The experienced Nucaf Tellicherry team won the Umm Al Quwain Premier Twenty20 league title defeated Malek Contracting team by four wickets. Despite Malek Contracting recording an impressive 200 for 6 in 20 overs, Tellicherry won through fine batting from Prashanth Braggs’ 45 runs and Firoz Khan’s 34 runs.

Al Manal Development lifted the sixth Umm Al Quwain Invitation Premier League by defeating Malek Contracting by six wickets. Malek were bowled out for 155 through Mohammad Harris’ spell of 4 for 16. Manal Development reached the target in 15.1 overs through Waheed Sajjad’s 55 runs and Adil Maroof’s unbeaten 67.

Talking about the new season, Ahmad said: “Out of the 16 tournaments the first eight tournaments will begin from this month and go on till the end of December 2014. The next eight tournaments will be held from December 2014 till the last week of April 2015.

The first eight tournaments commencing are: 2nd Brother Gas Corporate T20 League, 14th Kashmir T20 League, 7th Umm Al Quwain T20 League, 3rd Hologram Premier 25- over League, 6th UAQ Municipality Premier T20 League, 7th Invitation Premier T20 League, 2nd Car Fare Rent A Car T20 League and 7th Umm Al Quwain Premier T20 League.
