Delhi Private School reign supreme in inter-school events

Sharjah: The Delhi Private School (DPS), Sharjah displayed their supremacy in the sixth inter-school Sundeep Batavia Memorial cricket tournament for under-12 boys and in the fourth international inter-school basketball tournament for under-19 boys and girls.

"The victories are special to us as we beat teams from abroad. It is nice to emerge winners in an international tournament," T. Ali, the Head of Sports Department of DPS, told Gulf News.

Last month this school achieved a historic victory by emerging as the overall champions in the CBSE National Swimming Championship too at Rohtak in India.

In the cricket tournament, DPS defeated Indian School, Muscat by six wickets in the final. Set to score 62 runs for a win, the DPS reached the target in 13.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Rohil Jagwani of DPS bagged the man of the series award and received an air ticket sponsored by Air India. Chirag Thakur of DPS won the best bowler award, while the best fielder award went to ISM's Wasim Ali. DPS's Mehul Dhakan bagged the best batsman award.

Vikram Dutt, the coach of the cricket team, said: "Our cricket team is among the best due to the hard work of the boys."

In basketball, it was sweet revenge for the DPS girls, who had lost by two points in the final last year to Our Own English High School, Dubai. Through an improved and determined show, DPS beat Our Own 59-39 in the final.

DPS boys clinched the tournament for the fourth consecutive year beating NIMS, Sharjah 57-27.
