Dubai: The Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) does not have a ground of its own, but it has ensured there is no stoppage to its tournaments.
Paying rent for the use of different private grounds, the organisation is making sure that cricketers get to play without a break. The DCC was hit by the construction boom in Dubai in 2005 and lost seven of its grounds in the Al Jadaf area.
Its Inter Academy tournament, Emerging tournament and Premier League have now reached the knock out stages.
"Most of our tournaments are at the knockout stage and the Mobil Cup final is yet to be held. Last year, despite not having our own ground we managed to stage 24 tournament either directly by us or under our auspices," remarked Mohammad Lokhandwala, the secretary of the DCC to Gulf News.
The DCC has been using the Sevens ground, International Global Cricket Academy Oval ground and even the Zabeel Park cricket ground for its tournaments. Many tournaments supported by DCC are also being held at the Seven Seas Ground in the Dubai Investment Park.
Meanwhile, Umm Al Quwain, though they do not have a council of their own, is making sure that the seven grounds they created in the desert continue to stage tournaments. In their junior corporate Twenty20 tournament, Emirates NBD and Al Futtaim recorded victories.
In the Al Dhaid Gold Cup, Yogi Group's star players Swapnil Patil and Shaimon Butt guided Yogi Group to an eight-wicket win over Farooq Club.
The Ajman Cricket Council's Super Cup is in full swing. Eurocon's star batsman and UAE player Vikrant Shetty hit an unbeaten 73 to ensure his team scores a seven-wicket win over P2 XI team.
