Dubai: Danube cricket team once again proved that they are the undisputed champions in indoor cricket tournaments by emerging as the champions of the Indoor Ramadan Cup held at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Global Cricket Academy indoor stadium.

They beat Dubai Building Material Supply Centre (DBMSC) by 15 runs in the final on Friday.

Despite losing the toss and being put into bat, Danube fought back to post a good total and restrict the opponents.

Speaking to Gulf News, Anis Sajan of Danube, said: “We have once again won a very prestigious tournament. The ICC Global Ramadan Cup is a big event hence we feel proud to have emerged the champions. The fact that we have lifted this cup for the second time in a row makes it special.”

In customary fashion, Danube got off to a good start through Saqib (9) and Sachin (4) putting on 13 runs despite the DBMSC bowlers bowling a tight length. The second pair of Kashif (9) and Umar (2) could manage only 11 runs against DBMSC’s spin attack and took the score to 24 by the end of the sixth over.

Ojas (6) and Salman (14) consolidated Danube’s position and got an above-par score of 20 runs in their allotted three overs to take the score to 44 at the end of 9 overs They ran well between the wickets, which is the hallmark of the Danube team. The last pair of Arif (9) and Farhan Butt (4) took the score to 57 at the end of 12 overs.

The DBMSC team, who were playing in the final for the first time, cracked under the pressure of Danube’s tight attack needing 58 runs to win. Danube players, well known for their specialised fielding in indoor cricket, backed their bowlers. Farhan Butt took three wickets for 4 and restricted them DBMSC to 42 runs.

Salman Faris was adjudged the man of the final for his all-round show, while Umar Shah won the man-of-the-series award for his consistent performances.
