Sharjah: Cricketers of yester-year sparkled in the Forty's Club's first organised match held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Forty's White beat the Forty's Blue side by eight wickets. Both teams comprised founder members who are well-known business personalities in the UAE, veteran cricketers and local media in a Twenty20 game

C.T.K. Nasir opening the attack for the Whites and had Vijay Mehra nick one to give them an encouraging start. But Blues skipper Shaji Shahtaj and Irfan Ansari put on 78 runs for the second wicket, before both retiring after compiling 31 runs as per the rules of the match.

Sharjah Cricket Club's former all-rounder and leg spinner Ali Anwar produced a fine spell to take the prized wickets of Ashok Puri and Shiva Pagarani.

Ex-Indian Sports Club big-hitter Brij Bhalla and Gulf News chief cricket writer K.R. Nayar put on an unbeaten 31 until the overs ran out.

Forty's White replied through openers Jairaj Thakur and Nasir. Together they put on 98 for the opening wicket - Thakur hit two sixes and three fours to race to 30, while Nasir made his 31 in 21 balls with four boundaries.

Tauseef Khan then played a cameo, hitting 13 runs, while Mohammad Lokhandwala, who was leading the Whites, ensured they reached their target in just 14.4 overs.

I.P. Khaitan presented Anwar with the best bowler's trophy, Shahtaj the best batsman's trophy and Thakur the man of the match award.
