* Steven Smith’s 100 in 89 balls is the second fastest versus India in World Cup after the 84-ball 100 by Mahela Jayawardene at Mumbai World Cup final in 2011.

* Umesh Yadav now has eight wickets for India in World Cup knockouts. Only Zaheer Khan has more wickets (nine).

* Australia’s 328/7 is now the highest team total made in any World Cup semi-final.

* The 76-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan is the best opening stand in any World Cup knockout against Australia. The previous best was 48 between Gary Kirsten & Herschelle Gibbs at Birmingham in the 1999 semi-finals.

* Dhawan (412 runs) became the fourth Indian batsman to aggregate 400 runs in a single World Cup. The others were Sachin Tendulkar (673 runs in 2003, 523 in 1996 & 482 in 2011); Sourav Ganguly (465 in 2003) and Rahul Dravid (461 in 1999).

* Dhawan has been the topscorer for India in two ICC 50-over events. In the 2013 Champions Trophy, he made 363 runs @ 90.75 and in this World Cup, he aggregated 412 runs @ 51.50 again with with two centuries.

* Dhoni became the third ODI captain to aggregate 6000 runs. He joins Ricky Ponting (8497 runs) and Stephen Fleming (6295) with 6022 runs.

* Dhoni has become the first Indian to reach 1000 runs as captain in international matches in Australia.

* Australia’s record in the World Cup semi-final is - seven matches, won 6, tied 1.

* This was India’s first loss in a 50-over ICC event since losing to South Africa at Nagpur on March 12, 2011. They have won 16 matches in between.

* India, however haven’t won a single match against the home side during their tour to Australia in 2014/15 season (including the warm-up game)

* This the first time since 1987 World Cup that no Asian teams have made it to the final. This had also occurred in 1975, 1979 & 1987.
