Dubai: The International Cricket Council Academy (ICC Academy) has announced that the new term for its leading player development programme, The Warriors, will commence with 12 fully funded scholarship places for talented players from September 11.

Widely recognised as the UAE’s top cricket development and coaching programme, the ICC Academy Warriors encompasses players from six years of age through to adults. The Warriors programme offers UAE-based players of all levels access to world-class coaching within a pathway designed to enable every player to reach their potential, whether that be to play club cricket or graduate into the UAE national team programmes, which are also based at the Academy’s venue in Dubai Sports City.

Games are a key part of the programme, as such the Warriors play opponents within local leagues and tournaments, tour overseas and also compete against many of the teams that choose to visit ICC Academy.

As part of the ICC Academy’s drive to better support UAE-based talent, open trials will be held for the first time at the academy from 2pm on September 9. The trials are open to boys aged 12 to 18, from across the UAE and follow-on from internal trials, which will be held the week before.

From the trials, up to 12 talented players with potential will be selected by the ICC Academy coaching staff and awarded a fully-funded annual scholarship into the ICC Academy Warriors Emerging Players Programme.

“The scholarships are just one example of the improvements we’ve made to what we offer under the leadership of our new head of Cricket Development and Level 4 coach, Qasim Ali and his newly appointed team of coaches,” Will Kitchen, ICC Academy Manager, said.
