Dubai: Sachin Tendulkar created history by scoring his hundredth hundred in world cricket on Friday. He became the first batsman to achieve the landmark at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur against Bangladesh during the fourth match of the Asia Cup.

Tendulkar broke a streak of 33 innings without a hundred to register his 49th One Day International century and his first ton against Bangladesh. His last century was against South Africa in the 2011 World Cup at Nagpur. Tendulkar had already scored 51 Test hundreds.

It was an unusually slow knock from Tendulkar as he reached the landmark in 138 balls. Thirty-eight-year-old Tendulkar thus became the first batsman to reach the unique landmark while playing in his 462nd One Day International match.

Pressure was mounting on him ever since he failed to get to the three-figure mark during the series against England, West Indies and Australia. Tendulkar’s innings ended when he was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mashrafe Mortaza for 114.

His knock came off 147 balls and contained 12 boundaries and one six.
