Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab face must-win match with Deccan today
Chennai: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings caused an upset in the late Indian Premier League match last night when they cruised to a nine-wicket victory over leaders Delhi Daredevils in only 15 overs.
Murali Vijay's fine 48 helped Chennai easily surpass Daredevils' disappointing first-innings total of 114-5 as they reached 115-1.
Ben Hilfenhaus had earlier taken three wickets in a devastating spell of bowling, and Delhi looked likely to suffer an embarrassing collapse as they slumped to 27 for four. But Yogesh Nagar's 43 steadied the ship for the table-toppers, who remain top despite their defeat, while Chennai move up to fourth.
Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Super Kings made just one change to their team, leaving out pace bowler Yo Mahesh and bringing in left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati.
The Daredevils dropped West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell after he was expensive on his IPL debut last time out, with South African Roelof van der Merwe replacing him. They also brought in Umesh Yadav for Shahbaz Nadeem.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab find themselves in a must-win situation as they take on tournament laggards Deccan Chargers at the PCA stadium today.
Punjab have tough games coming up as they haven't played the Daredevils yet and will be taking them on in Delhi after today's match, followed by another one at Dharamsala later. In between, they will play one match against Chennai Super Kings at Dharamsala.
Led by stand-in captain David Hussey, Punjab will have this daunting task at the back of their minds. They will be high on confidence having defeated the Hyderabad team in their own backyard by 25 runs just a few days back, but the skipper's main worry would be Punjab's poor record on their home ground.
Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 115 for 1 in 15.2 overs (M. Vijay 48; M. Hussey 38). Delhi Daredevils 114 for five (Y. Nagar 43; B.Hilfenhaus 3-27). Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets.
