Dubai Cricket may have been Jamaica’s national sport for over 100 years and Bob Marley their biggest icon in music, but Chris Gayle has no qualms about admitting that Usain Bolt is the island’s biggest ambassador at the global stage for the moment.

“Words cannot explain what he (Bolt) has done for Jamaica and the world. He has rewritten history,” one of the most admired cricketing heroes of Jamaica admitted during an interview on Wednesday. The fastest man in the planet has established himself as legend by becoming the first sprinter to retain his Olympic 100 and 200 metres golds in London last year, apart from boasting the highest tally of gold medals at the World Athletics along with the likes of Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson.

“I am really happy for him. I have heard him speaking about how he trains etc and hope youngsters can take a leaf out of him,” said Gayle, who has indulged in exhibition cricket matches with the sprinter in the past.

“I hope he (Bolt) can go on to do bigger things. Everywhere you go, you hear people say Usain Bolt, Usain Bolt now. He has done wonders for Jamaica,” Gayle concluded.
