Sharjah: Indika Batuwitaarachchi and Shadeep Silva are looking forward to playing against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.

These two cricketers, who have displayed splendid form in domestic cricket, have played along with some of the Sri Lankan star players from their school days.

They were both a part of Bloomfield Club in Colombo, where stars like Sanath Jayasuriya, Ruwan Kalpake and Kumar Dharmasena sprouted.

Batuwitaarachchi, who has won the Shyam Bhatia outstanding player of the year award, said he played for Bloomfield for several years under the captainship of Roshan Mahanama.

"I left Sri Lanka in 2004. Till then I used to play with [the Sri Lankan players].

"So the Asia Cup will be a great opportunity to play against them," he added Silva was a member of the Sri Lanka Under-19 World Cup squad.

"I too played for Bloomfield and it will be nice to play against some of the players I played regularly with till I came to UAE," he said.

Both Batuwitaarachchi and Silva were prolific scorers during their school days as well.

Batuwitaarachchi has scored 208 runs at one inter-school event while Silva has captured seven wickets in an inter-school match.
