Jaipur: What is the secret behind Ramesh Powar's splendid bowling performance against England?
The spinner attributes it to his new-born daughter. His wife, Tejaswini, delivered a baby girl last month.
Powar strongly believes that a girl brings luck to the family. "Being a Hindu, it is our belief that the first daughter brings luck as she is Laxmi, the goddess of wealth," he says.
Powar claimed three wickets for 24 runs to bowl out England for a mere 125 runs in the opening match of the Champions Trophy.
Just as he always aims for a wicket whenever he bowls, he and his wife had always wished for a baby girl. "I am so happy. It is a great feeling to be a father."
The joy was reflected in his bowling too. He bowled a much better length than he usually does. "Frankly I did not feel like leaving for the team training camp. My wife reminded me that I am a professional and I should go."
Powar revealed that he had called up home nearly every other day just to listen to his baby's voice.
And how did he celebrate the arrival of his lucky charm? "Of course, I distributed sweets among my team-mates," he said with pride.
