Dubai: Left-arm spinner Mohammad Azam of Eurocon Alubond made history by bagging five wickets in one over in the Gulf Super Sixes tournament at the Dubai Sports City yesterday.

This tournament has so far been dominated by batsmen through their whirlwind knocks and shower of sixes till Azam produced a dream spell of five wickets for three runs against Brookfield Multiplex to ensure Eurocon a 72-runs victory and place in the last 16 stage.

This unique spell never before witnessed in this shorter version of the game was special in many ways. He bowled seven balls which included a wide and picked five wickets with the five legitimate deliveries.

Speaking to Gulf News after the spell, Azam said: "Though I missed six wickets in an over I am happy I bowled my team to victory. I took two wickets with the first two balls then off the third ball they took a single. With the fourth ball I took another wicket. My fifth ball happened to be a wide but I took two wickets more with the next two balls."

In another match, Eurocon restricted fanatics with good bowling from Ahmad Raza and Nasser Aziz.

Meanwhile, Yogi Group's UAE star player Shaiman Anwar steered Yogi Group to a 67 runs win over Desert Group. Anwar belted five sixes and two fours in his 40 runs.

The tournament is organised and conducted by Crayons Communications and held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council and is supported by Gulf Oil in association with the Landmark Group.
