Al Ain is going to have a new full-fledged cricket stadium soon, according to J.R. Gangaramani, the new president of Al Ain Cricket Association (ACA) and managing director of the Al Fara group.

"Serious efforts are on to build a stadium to match the ones in the other parts of the UAE," the newly-elected general secretary, K.K. Abdussalam, said.

With the completion of the new stadium, ACA will be able to address a long-standing problem regarding the lack of a proper stadium for the sport in the green city, Abdussalam explained.

The 11-member newly-elected ACA executive committee, under the stewardship of Gangaramani, constitutes quite a dynamic team, according to Dr Ahmad Tariq Ansari, who continues as the senior vice-president of the association.

Abdussalam said in a statement that four temporary grounds have already been prepared, with the help of the Al Fara group, where ACA is going to conduct their forthcoming tournaments.

The first event the Ramadan night cricket tournament will begin on October 6.

"There are some 35 cricket teams in Al Ain alone, of which 20 are registered with ACA. We are expecting more teams from different parts of the UAE to participate in coming tournaments like Jinna Cup, Nehru Cup and ACA Cup," Abdussalam said.
