With so much being discussed and debated on the safety measures in place in any of the power boats used for high-speed racing, a senior official from the organisers has put it all in the right perspective.

"There are several measures firmly in place and as organisers we do not compromise when it comes to safety of the drivers or the boats," Patrick Heslop, Technical Director of the World Professional Powerboat Association (WPPA), organisers of the UIM/WPPA World Class One Powerboat Championships told Gulf News."We conduct regular checks on the boats along with mandatory checks before and after a race is held," Heslop insisted.

The safety cockpit of a powerboat is an encapsulated shell that is meant to protect the drivers inside the boat. They use full racing seats, just like those used in fighter aircraft, with racing harnesses, seat belts and helmets.
