Fujairah: Promoters of the Continental F2000 Championship have earmarked Fujairah as a prime location for the sport, announcing it will host a Grand Prix meeting on February 23.

The announcement was made by Formula World Sports, organisers of the powerboat championships, who also unveiled Bahrain, Oman and Egypt as the other Middle East venues for the competition.

Altogether 18 boats from 12 nations will be vying for valuable points as well as a share of the $30,000 prize money as Fujairah looks set to become an important stop on the F2000 diary.

The details were revealed at a press conference at Fujairah International Marine Club by Abdul Salam Fairuz, Formula 2000 Promoter, and Ahmad Ebrahim Mohammad, Executive Director of Fujairah International Marine Club.

The club was also chosen to be the official headquarters of the F2000 Championships as well as the executive organising committee for all championship meets.

Fairuz said the upcoming Grand Prix is an opportunity to showcase the sport in the northern part of the UAE.

He said: "We're hoping that the forthcoming races will prove a worthwhile event for the sport's fans as well as a chance for people to be introduced to this exciting sport."

Teams will start arriving a week before the start of the Fujairah Grand Prix, which will have official practice sessions on February 22.
