Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Expo 2020 Higher Committee, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline, on Monday chaired a meeting to review the progress against preparatory plans to deliver the World Expo 2020.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Ebrahim Al Shaibani, Vice-Chairman of the Higher Committee and Director-General of the Ruler’s Court, and other committee members.

The Higher Committee then discussed matters related to relevant work-steams and upcoming milestones, including the executive committee meeting in October, followed by the General Assembly in November 2014, both of which will be held in Paris. These meetings are part of the mandatory updates required to be provided to the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), as Dubai prepares to submit all requirements for formal approval at the next Registration Phase in November 2015.

Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE’s Minister of State, Managing Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and Director General of Dubai Expo 2020 Office, presented an update on the set-up and operations of the Dubai Expo 2020 Office to the committee.

Site readiness activity is underway on the Dubai Trade Centre to Jebel Ali site, which will host Expo 2020, with construction set to start by November 2015, once the BIE approves the plans.
