The romantic comedy is said to be the sixth-highest opener of 2015

Released on the Hindu festival of Dussehra, filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s romantic comedy Shaandaar, starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, has made Rs131 million (Dh7.4 million) on its opening day.
Shaandaar, which released in the UAE on Thursday, received an overwhelming response and is also the highest opener for Kapoor and Bhatt, read a statement.
The film is said to be the sixth-highest opener of 2015 leaving behind Gabbar is Back and Dil Dhadakne Do.
The overall cost of Shaandaar, including marketing and distribution, comes up to Rs620 million. However, 35 per cent of it has already been recovered by the makers through satellite, music and other rights.
Shaandaar, which also stars Sanah Kapoor, Sushma Seth, Pankaj Kapur, Niki Aneja Walia and Sanjay Kapoor, is expected to have a good run over the four-day weekend in India as no major film have released alongside it.
