The attack on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo in which 12 people were killed was not only shocking, but a barbaric act by terrorists. It is difficult to grasp as to how long such barbaric acts on innocent people will continue to flood daily existence. None of the existing religions in the world promote violence nor do they have any place for such inhumane acts. The attack was more of an act by misguided individuals who misconstrued their actions as ‘jihad’ to satisfy their unfounded and baseless reasons.

It is high time that world leaders and religious leaders alike, as well as citizens of the world, stand against such people and condemn such extremist behaviour. We need to send these radical groups a very clear, strong and unambiguous message in order to put an end to such inhumane acts and to save further lives from going to waste.

It is time that we let people of all faiths, religions and sects live in peace and harmony with respect for the various religious values of all people. A human life is pious and precious, and must be lived with love and care. I hope that we will live to see a day when all human beings live with a good sense of compassion for each other and not hate. Instead of opposing each other, we need to adopt the policy of ‘live and let live’.
