Modi and gender equality

It looks like the author has a prejudiced mindset because he has written at length, a personal affair, on Narendra Modi’s life, which has already been clarified by him and the party during the election campaign when the Congress Party sensationalised it (‘Let Modi change his mindset towards women,’ Gulf News, December 20). To bring it up again and passing judgement on his mindset is nothing short of absurd.

If Modi and his party do not believe in gender equality, his successor in Gujarat would not have been a woman chief minister. If Modi treats women as second class citizens, he would not have had a woman as minister of external affairs. The fact that he has included more women in his council of ministers shows he has given equal importance to the gender. So the author’s opinion is completely untrue. The party has so many spokeswomen who do well in articulating the party’s views on various issues in various forums. Yes, the government has the responsibility to provide security to women, but they also need to attribute the spate of molestations and rape incidents across India. The assumed mindset of Modi and his party is little too far from reality.

Spreading smiles for Christmas

Brighten your hearts by spreading a smile for the season on the occasion of Christmas. Let us spread the spark into our lives and let us try to change the artificial character in us and give ourselves a try at being the person we really are. The real character in us is our true appearance to the world.

So, this Christmas, let’s make this season about spreading our positive presence to others by spreading love and a smile to all people and letting go of all tribulations and persecutions in our lives. Keep smiling and one day life will get tired of hurting you, and I am sure you will find true and loving happiness.

Decision making

Well done Pakistan in killing the Pakistan Taliban leader, Mullah Fazullah (‘Pakistan Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah ‘killed in air strike’, Gulf News, December 21). I think that now Pakistan should concentrate on eradicating those culprits from society. The problem is confusion with over all government decisions. The politicians, defence and clerics are having different opinions and moving towards different directions.

End the struggle

The Pakistan Army did an excellent, as job locating and hitting such a high level target was not easy. Well done, Pakistan! I hope it is the beginning of the end of our struggles with the Taliban.

They can do it!

The Pakistan Army has proven that they are capable enough to eliminate the cancer of terrorism when they work without political pressure.

Just the beginning

Good Job! Better late than never. This doesn’t end anything; it’s a beginning and should be considered as a beginning to wipe out the Taliban. Pakistan should realise its entity and have to take a stance.

Tragic circumstances

These are the culprits of our society and they have nothing to do with Islam, the religion of peace. They are not to be called Taliban ‘students’, but rather we should call them cruel tyrants. They have attacked our hearts, our children and we pray to God that they will meet their justice in the afterlife. We have no words to express what we really feel about this tragic incident that happened in my hometown of Peshawar.

Unite against terror

The war on terror needs supports from the entire world. Pakistan has sacrificed more than 60,000 people for this so far. Our army is 100 per cent capable to fight and destroy terrorist forces, groups and organisations. Quick retaliation by the army and the quick killing of Mullah Fazlullah a day after the Peshawar incident proved that if appropriate support is provided by neighbouring countries, such as Afghanistan and moral support and condemnation from those countries who can’t take part, that the elimination of terrorism will be a quick journey.

Modify education for women

Another case of a woman getting raped by her friends is very disappointing (‘Woman raped by two friends in Delhi,’ Gulf News, December 21). Indian society has to be re-educated on women’s modesty and how to guard and respect it. I can’t believe such news of repeated rape incidents coming from India. Lawmakers need to be guided in the right direction to minimise rape incidents.

Is this necessary?

There are hundreds of rape cases every day and although they are very unfortunate and sad, must Gulf News publish it? Why are they often about New Delhi?

Important to publish

Why not publish this story? News that affects the common man or woman should be published so that others can take care and beware of what is going on.

Just reporting

It is just a misconception that there are only reports coming from New Delhi. Whatever is happening, Gulf News is reporting only that to the readers. Since the majority of the cases have happened in New Delhi, it becomes big news and is published. So in my opinion, there is nothing wrong in reporting about the true facts. Those who feel bad about it don’t want it to be published as well. It’s never like that. Gulf News has always reported such cases from other countries as well wherever it happens.

Other places too

Though I appreciate what Gulf News is publishing, but are rape incidents really occurring only in India? I think that all news and events are important. Please don’t just concentrate on this.

Drilling in awareness

Yes, Gulf News must and will publish these horror stories happening in India as people need to be aware of this huge issue. Men should think twice before approaching a woman. Society is not a zoo. We need morals and ethics to follow.

Have they learnt?

It is very clear that these people are still ignorant on the dangers of keeping wild animals as house pets (‘Lion owner sued for death of maid,’ Gulf News, December 21). These animals should be kept only in zoos or wildlife reserves. It would be better for the animal and those people around it. He is lucky that no one in this man’s family has been eaten by his lion! Rest in peace to the poor maid who was just working overseas to support her family back in her home country. She deserved more than this.
