While watching the news in the past week, I realised that every time there is an attack by a ‘Muslim’, he or she is immediately referred to as a terrorist and in turn, Islam takes on a black spot. I would have felt better if the ‘other’ attacks were subjected to as a ‘terrorist attack’ but that is never the case. In my honest opinion, when a crime takes place by a person from a religion other than Islam, the case is soon dismissed after giving the punishment. But if the same crime is committed by a Muslim, it remains on display for days, thereby, giving rise to controversies.

I am a Muslim; a proud one at that, and if at all the attack on Charlie Hebdo was considered to be an act of jihad or an act of retaliation, I do not support it. I simply wish to change the way that the world perceives Islam.

My religion strictly prohibits us from harming any other living being, except in the case of self-defence.

It is important that we spread the notion of peace around the world, and with that in mind, if you want to state or express your opinions; lift a pen, and not a gun. Muslims around the world need to bear in mind that what we do on a daily basis reflects on what our religion has taught us and so we need to always showcase good behaviour. We need to all be wary of our actions and I do not say this just as a Muslim, but as a fellow human being. Taking an innocent life away just to prove your point is not the way to go about it. Finally, I wish to convey my deep regrets to the people of France.
