** Australia were playing their 850th One-day International. Only India, with 875, have played more.

** Tim Southee (31 wkts) now becomes the third highest wicket taker for New Zealand in the World Cup. Only Jacob Oram (36) and Chris Harris 32 have more wickets than him in WC games.

** Trent Boult (5/27) registered the first five-wicket haul of his career. His previous best was 4-44 vs SL at Dunedin (23-1-15).

** Boult’s (5/27) was only the fourth five-plus wicket haul by the Kiwis in WC matches. Tim Southee’s 7/33 vs Eng at Wellington a few games ago remains the best.

** Australia’s total of 151/10 is now their second lowest ever total in World Cups. The lowest three are as follows: 129-10 vs Ind Chelmsford (1983); 151-10 vs NZ Auckland (2015); 151-9 vs Eng Lords (1979)

** Mitchell Starc’s heroic effort of (6/28) is now the only second six-wicket haul to end up on the losing side in a WC match. Shane Bond had claimed 6/23 at Port Elizabeth in 2003 vs Australia and yet ended up on the losing side.

** New Zealand achieved a narrow win by one wicket with a massive 161 balls still remaining. This sets a new world record of narrow 1 wicket wins with most balls remaining. The previous best now stands a long way away when Kenya beat Bermuda by 1 wicket with 82 balls still remaining in the match.

** It was also the first time New Zealand achieved a 1-wicket win in a WC match so far. Their previous narrowest margin in terms of wickets was beating Eng by 2 wkts at Edgbaston in 1983.

** New Zealand last beat Australia in a WC match at Cardiff in the 1999 WC. Australia have always prevailed in the matches played in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 World Cups.

** This was among the six narrowest wins (by wickets) in all World Cups. It was the second such victory in this year’s World Cup.
