Dubai: Youth living in the Gulf have until Friday to submit their entries for the Expo 2020 photo competition, say organisers.

The competition is open to all GCC nationals and residents aged between 16 and 25.

Entries can be submitted for three themes: opportunity, mobility, and sustainability, each matching a subtheme of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Ten shortlisted images from each category will be on display at YouthConnect 2016, taking place in Dubai in November.

The three winners will each be announced during an awards ceremony at the same event. Organisers expect more than 1,000 young people from across the GCC to show up this year.

“With the close of the competition fast approaching, we encourage all young people in the GCC with an interest in photography to unleash their creative talent,” said Manal Al Byat, an Expo 2020 official.

The competition is held in collaboration with the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA).

The award was launched in 2011 by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Photographs can be taken with digital or analogue cameras or mobile phones and up to three images can be entered in each category.

Entries will be judged by a jury made up of both HIPA and Expo 2020 Dubai representatives. The winners will each receive a Canon EOS 7D Mark II camera, worth around Dh5,000, as well as a place at a two-day HIPA practical workshop.

The competition will also include the People’s Choice Award, with members of the public invited to vote online for their favourite entry.

All entries must be submitted before midnight UAE time on Friday on www.hipa.ae
