Dubai: Having the right behaviour and attitude is critical for young Emiratis when finding a job before and during the expo, a report on the human capital needs during Expo 2020 found.
The Al Masar report, which was shared during the Federal Authority for Human Resources International Forum 2014 (FAHR) on Tuesday, studied the talent needed before, during and after Expo 2020.
The study, conducted by The Talent Enterprise found that skills in customer service, digital business skills, social media and event management, will be in high demand during the Expo preparations. However, Radhika Punshi, Consulting Director at The Talent Enterprise, said having these skills in not enough without the right attitude.
“As important as skills are, the right behaviour and attitude will be critical to be suitable for jobs during the Expo. Young Emiratis should be aware of that and so would need to demonstrate interest, motivation and drive to consider careers within these sectors.”
David Jones, founder and Managing Director at The Talent Enterprise, said five sectors will witness key growth and need to expand. These are hospitality, transportation, retail, banking and finance as well as real estate and infrastructure.
A growth in entrepreneurial businesses and the creation of small SMEs is also predicted.
A recent report by Standard Chartered estimates that around 300,000 direct jobs and around a million indirect jobs will be created in the UAE by 2020. Since 25 to 30 million people are expected to visit during the expo, 90 per cent of the jobs available will be in the travel and tourism sector. These job opportunities are expected to be created from 2018 to 2021.
Jones said that the population will grow at its fastest during the Expo.
FAHR 2014 was inaugurated yesterday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre by the Minister of Education, Humaid Al Qutami, who is also chairman of FAHR.
The two-day forum includes 23 main speakers who are human resource experts and leaders from 10 different countries.
The forum focuses on sustainable human resources that will support the national agenda. The international speakers include Henry Jackson, President and Chief Executive Officer at CPA, and Robert Lavigna, Assistant Vice-Chancellor and Director of HR at the University of Wisconsin.
The forum, held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, presents an ideal opportunity to human resource executives and business leaders to share ideas.
