Abu Dhabi: Monday, June 6 is the first day of Ramadan, the moonsighting committee has announced.

According to the committee, chaired by Sultan Bin Saeed Al Baid, Minister of Justice, Sunday is the last day of Sha'aban and Monday is the first day of the fasting month.

The committee said the Ramadan moon was sighted Sunday night. The start of the month was determined using Sharia methods and by consulting with neighbouring countries.

Al Badi and the committee members extended their greetings to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abdu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the other Rulers and Crown Princes.

They also congratulated the UAE people and the Arab and Muslim nations on the glorious month.
