Abu Dhabi: The second annual Mother of the Nation Festival opens in Abu Dhabi tomorrow (Sunday) with the 10-day event featuring more than 100 activities and 35 concert and performance shows to entertain visitors.

The festival which takes place along the Corniche, is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and is a celebration of the vision and work by Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, and President of the Supreme Council of Motherhood and Childhood.

The main centrepiece of the festival will be the Mother of the Nation Pavilion. The pavilion showcases the many accomplishments of Shaikha Fatima, including international awards and recognitions bestowed on her for her work. The pavilion also features videos of prominent Emirati women talking about how Shaikha Fatima inspired them and acted as a positive role model.

The festival area will be split into four different zones, with each zone having its own unique theme. The four zones are split into the Progress Zone, the Happiness Zone, the Souq Zone, and the Beach Dining Zone.

The Progress Zone will feature interactive programmes centred around the main message of encouraging conservation and sustainability for the future.

In the Happiness Zone, young children will be able to enjoy themselves in a number of activities designed for them, including an obstacle course that will allow them to explore, climb, and read stories.

The Souq Zone will have a number of traditional Emirati shops selling locally made cultural products alongside international brands.

Visitors looking for a tasty treat will have the chance of savouring a variety of international dining options at the Beach Dining Zone with restaurants, food trucks and stalls.

Daily talks will also play a prominent role in this year’s festival, with talks highlighting the message of female empowerment. The line up of speakers include CNN’s Becky Anderson, renowned fashion designer Sara Al Nadani, and
Dr Shefali Tsabary, whose book ‘The Conscious Parent’ was endorsed by Oprah Winfrey.
