Abu Dhabi: Noora Bint Mohammad Al Kaabi, Minister of Cultural and Knowledge Development, has opened the ‘Untold Stories Retold’ exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
The event is on till June 24 at Warehouse421, a cultural destination in Abu Dhabi where transformed warehouses become a platform for artistic expression, understanding, and further development of the UAE’s creative community.
The Untold Stories Retold presents two exhibitions shown at the UAE’s pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2016-17 for the first time in the UAE.
The exhibition gives an overview of the UAE’s involvement in the Venice Biennale and a rare behind-the-scenes look at the making of a national exhibition.
Al Kaabi said: “Each year the National Pavilion UAE develops thoughtful and high-quality exhibitions to be presented in Venice, a real point of pride for the nation. They explore diverse and often under-celebrated aspects of the UAE’s arts and architecture scene, and demonstrate to the world that the UAE is a dynamic cultural centre, with deep history and rich discourse. The Venice Biennale is a powerful platform to share untold stories from the UAE with international audiences, and in the process, to showcase the depth of our history, the richness of our contemporary culture and the infinite talents of our people.”
The Venice Biennale is a 123-year old global event that brings together people from different countries, backgrounds and creative disciplines to immerse themselves in some of the world’s greatest art, architecture and culture. A truly global gathering, more than 85 countries host their own national pavilion in its alternating annual art and architecture exhibitions.
