Abu Dhabi: In a bid to facilitate the spread of science and knowledge, the Ministry of Interior launched the first ever smart library today.

Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, officially inaugurated the library that can be accessed at www.smartlibrary.ae.

The database contains a variety of digital information sources, including approximately 14,000 e-books, 8,000 scientific journals, over 3,000 online newspapers that are updated every minute and thousands of masters and PhD theses and dissertations from across the world. in addition to digital solutions and smart audiovisual programmes that support the expansion of knowledge or academic attainment for all ministry staff.

Shaikh Saif called for providing the necessary electronic facilities to allow the ministry’s staff to get access to the practical content of the smart library at all times, in a way that serves the UAE government’s vision towards transforming government services into smart services.

“Keeping pace with the sciences requires providing staff members with digital and smart media content and means. This comes in line with the ministry’s strategy which calls for harnessing the latest technologies in order to support innovation, through the Creativity and Innovation Club affiliated with the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, which holds regular meetings with innovation teams through the interactive conference techniques available at the library,” he said.
