Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development’s largest project, ‘The Resident Innovator’, was launched on Wednesday across the ministry’s branches in the UAE.

The project aims to choose a number of Emirati innovators, grant them necessary tools and facilities so as to enhance their creative and innovative capabilities, accomplishment of achievements and help them turn their ideas and innovations into successful projects.

The project was launched by Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, who stressed that the ministry is always keen to support creative people and foster Emirati talents in culture and knowledge fields in order to be locally, regionally and globally recognised.

To that end, the ministry has adopted many ambitious plans and initiatives including ‘The Resident Innovator’, ‘Supporting Young Writers’, and the ‘Short Story Award’, among many more. These initiatives are not only aimed at supporting talents but also backing all creative Emiratis in literary, artistic and intellectual fields, to further support the UAE’s efforts to take the lead in the Arab and international arena, Shaikh Nahyan said.

The Resident Innovator is a new project that aims to sow the seeds of energy and vitality in the creative Emirati environment and communicate with all creative people in the UAE to support, stimulate and celebrate their achievements.

In the first phase, the ministry’s centres in Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah will bring in the expertise of many international institutions working in cultural exchange fields. “We will select a number of creative Emiratis who will reside in the centres for a while to get necessary tools and facilities that would boost their creative, innovative capacities and fulfilment of achievements. We will help them turn their ideas and innovations into successful projects. We hope this project will contribute to enriching the cultural reality of the UAE’s local areas through a cultural and artistic production,” Shaikh Nahyan further said.
