Abu Dhabi: A new photographic exhibition running until Thursday will portray the suffering of innocent victims of war.

The exhibition, ‘War from the Victims’ Perspective’, will be held at the Armed Forces Officers Club and features a collection of 60 historic images taken at different war zones over the past years. The photos capture innocent civilians whose lives have been negatively impacted by armed conflicts.

On the opening day, organisers said they would hold an introductory meeting on the sidelines of the exhibition for a group of students of the UAE law, military and police colleges and other relevant bodies.

In accordance with the UAE’s keen interest in raising awareness about the international humanitarian law, the UAE National Commission on International Humanitarian Law, in collaboration with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi, is organising an exhibition of photos to commemorate the founding of the ICRC 150 years ago and shed light on the suffering of civilians in wars and armed conflicts.

The UAE National Commission on International Humanitarian Law was established in 2004 as part of the UAE’s efforts to introduce and promote the principles and provisions of the international humanitarian law to alleviate the impact of armed conflicts on civilians. To achieve its goals, it holds regular symposia and workshops.

The members of the commission include legal experts and other stakeholders from various UAE departments and sectors.
