Dubai: Most of the foundation’s clients have access to all facilities and privileges to enjoy their daily life as any normal human being, such as a swimming pool, a gym, art and craft activities, field trips, workshops, and educational and vocational training.

The woman’s stay is made positive, safe, happy, fun and useful. They are made to stay involved in the community, build their self-esteem and confidence by empowering them before they depart so they can start a new chapter in their lives independently.

For the period of their stay at the foundation, clients must adhere to the rules listed in their admission policy. Basic needs, such as food, clothing and personal hygiene items are offered for free. Each member has to be productive, their day starts at 7am and their daily schedules are arranged.

Case managers and counsellors meet up with victims three times a week to follow up with the treatment and support plan agreed by the client.

Some of the courses that have been held for them include language courses in English and Arabic, sewing, cooking and computer courses.

Some programmes include managing small projects, a beauty specialist course, computer course, among others, she said.

Most of these programmes are running inside DFWAC but some are held outside.

Victims of domestic violence are free to go outside and meet family and friends, but require approval from case managers due to safety concerns.

Clients of human trafficking cannot leave the premises “because they could run away as they are still under investigation [as] victims or possible victims”.

Children

Their stay can last years as they have no caregivers or have been taken away from their parents because they were being abused and neglected.

A supervisor and a nanny take full care of them.

A 24-hour rotation with alternative mothers is arranged who follow up with the children’s school work as well.

A playground has been provided for children.
