Sharjah: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has announced that 230 Russian publishers have confirmed their participation in the 35th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), which will be held in November.

It follows SBA’s participation in the 28th edition of the Moscow International Book Fair, which was held from September 2 to 6. A number of high-profile figures visited the SBA stand, including Serge Medevac, director of the Russian Federal Press Agency, and Demetri Etzokovitch, the agency’s deputy chairman.

Al Ameri said: “Our participation in the Moscow International Book Fair stems from our strong belief in the need to promote dialogue between cultures and increase communication between various professionals interested in the book industry, and is in line with the vision of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for strengthening Sharjah’s status as a beacon of intercultural and intellectual communication between various peoples across the globe.”

The SBA delegation held a series of meetings on the sidelines of the book fair, during which it highlighted the $300,000 (around Dh1.1 million) Translation Grant offered by SIBF to publishers. It also focused on the Matchmaking Programme, which brings together publishers and managers of translation agencies who are interested in buying and selling the translation rights of books published in various languages.
