Dubai: As the city of Dubai ramps up its bid to host the global exposition Expo 2020, organisers have employed the help of Emirati illustrator and artist Khaled Bin Hamad to create an animation strip.

The characters for the strip, called ‘Nahyan’s Expo Adventures’, were launched on the first day of the annual pop culture event, Middle East Film & Comic Con on Friday.

To be serialised, the strip follows an Emirati boy Nahyan and his family as they learn about Dubai’s Expo 2020 bid.

“Nahyan is a boy who knows everything,” said Bin Hamad. “We chose a very Emirati name to reflect the idea of Expo 2020.”

Nahyan also has a sister called Shamma, a grandfather called El Waled and his parents are Bu Nahyan and Um Nahyan.

The strip will soon appear in advertisements and posters, said Bin Hamad.

The artist also launched his own graphic novel called ‘Nasser’s Secrets’ at the two-day pop culture event.

Organisers of Expo 2020 will vote on a host city later this year.

Dubai is one of five cities nominated as host.
