Dubai: In Sharjah, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has already started preparing for a busy month of charitable activities, hoping to feed at least 1,600 people every evening.
According to Khamees Al Suwaidi, the head of the RCA in Sharjah, the association will set up three iftar tent sites, one of which will be at its headquarters in the Nakhailat area.
"The Nakhailat tent will be for pick up iftar only and will serve up to one thousand people, whereas the other two will accommodate those who want to eat there. Those will cater to 300 people each," he said.
The other two tents, he added, would be located beside the Gold Souq and the etisalat building.
"During the month, we collect Zakat from people to distribute to the poor later. We've also started giving out shopping coupons to needy families to spend in the Sharjah Cooperative Society", he said.
Distribution: Across the UAE
Many organisations also carry out Ramadan projects across the UAE, including Dar Al Ber, which is supplying thousands of meals every day to needy people.
500 meals will be distributed in Ras Al Khaimah, another 600 in Ajman and Sharjah. According to the organisation, some of the distribution points include Othman Bin Affan mosque, the Somalian Club, Anas Ibn Malek Mosque, Hassan Al Bafri Mosque and the Hassan Al Jaber Mosque, in Sharjah's industrial area.
