Grand ceremony ends Quran awards
The Dubai International Holy Quran Awards (DIHQA) ended its series of activities for Ramadan on Saturday with a grand ceremony honouring the top ten winners.

Dubai: The Dubai International Holy Quran Awards (DIHQA) ended its series of activities for Ramadan on Saturday with a grand ceremony honouring the top ten winners.
During the ceremony, held at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Al Mamzar, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, presented the award for the Islamic Personality of the Year to a representative from the King Fahd Complex for the printing of the Holy Quran and their other numerous achievements.
The Yemeni contestant earned first place at this year's Awards out of 85 participants from countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Held annually from the 8th to the 19th of Ramadan, this year's 12th edition saw the first release of a recording of the Quran recitation by committee member Khalifa Al Tunaiji.
The top three winners for this year's DIHQA are from Arab countries: Fares Al Aagam of Yemen; Noor Al Deen Al Younsi, of Libya and Khalid Al Ainati, of Kuwait.
The prize for the Islamic Personality of the Year is Dh1 million for contributions in the Islamic world. The first three winners of the Quran recitation receive Dh250,000, Dh200,000 and Dh150,000 respectively. The fourth to tenth positions receive Dh65,000, Dh60,000, Dh55,000, Dh50,000, Dh45,000, Dh40,000 and Dh35,000.
Winners below the tenth position will be rewarded according to their evaluations as those above 80 per cent are rewarded Dh30,000 each, from 70-79 per cent receive Dh25,000 each and below 70 per cent get Dh20,000 each.
"Each year the award is progressing and becoming one of the top awards offered on the international arena," said Ebrahim Mohammad Bu Melha, Chairman of DIHQA's Organising Committee.
"It gathers participants from across different cultures speaking in various tongues and unites Islamic scholars for one purpose - to elevate the status of Islam."
