Abu Dhabi: A delegation from the UAE will participate in the meetings of the Unesco committee of experts on intangible heritage, starting on Monday in Paris.

The UAE is one of six countries on the committee, along with Turkey, South Korea, Estonia, Kenya and Mexico.

The choice of the UAE to be among the six countries that represent the world in this committee is a sign of the high status enjoyed by the country led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, Director General of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach), in a statement.

Adach successes

The committee of experts was formed to discuss and study the files submitted by countries to record elements of intangible heritage at Unesco list.

It was formed at the third meeting of the International Committee to Safeguard Intangible Heritage, held in Istanbul in November 2008. Al Mazroui added the expertise and the status of UAE experts further demonstrates the successes achieved by Adach, under the guidance of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Dr Nasser Ali Al Humeri, Director of Intangible Heritage Department at Adach, will head the UAE delegation.
