Abu Dhabi: Ansel Adams, the iconic American photographer, is the subject of the sixth Emirates Photography Competition it was revealed yesterday.

"For each session of the competition, a main theme is chosen. This year, we decided to honour Ansel Adams' contribution to the field of photography with our theme Black and White through Creative Eyes," Bader Al Nomani, Director, Emirates Photography Competition, said.

The competition is held under the patronage of the International Federation of Photographic Art (Fiap) and organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach).

"We have already received over 6,000 entries from not only the UAE and the region and around the world even though the deadline is not for another two months," Abdullah Salem Al Ameri, Director, Department of Culture and Arts, Adach, said.

Two groups

In addition to the main theme, the competition is divided into five categories; Wildlife, People at Work, Sport, Still Life and Abstract and Future Image by Future Eyes, which is for Emiratis only. The competition is divided into two groups, for those under 16 years old and those under 21 years old. "This year's cash prizes are worth over Dh550,000, which will be divided among the winners, in addition to the Fiap medals that they will receive," he added.
