Sharjah: Al Qasba is hosting an outdoor art exhibition with 13 works by contemporary Italian artist Roberta Mattiussi. The show will run until January 22, next to Shababeek Restaurant.

Dina Al Nakhi, events manager at Al Qasba Development Authority said, "Al Qasba has always played a pivotal role in exchanging cultures and arts between countries to facilitate better understanding among people."

She added through such events as the Italian Art Exhibition - and a number of other unique exhibitions held through the year - people want to create not only an interesting event for art aficionados, but also a cultural experience for visitors.

'Art of possession'

"Portraying the art of expression, this exhibition also aims to renew and promote Italian Contemporary Art and facilitate dialogue between the UAE and Italian culture," she said.

The exhibition showcases portraits of women positioned in a symbolic atmosphere.

With a degree in Politics Science and a keen interest in branches of philosophy, art and psychology, Mattiussi's works are influenced by her interest in ancient and modern semiology.

Her portraits of women often contain a symbolic surrealism with informal references. Her work is described as modern art at its best.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shaikh Saud Bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Urban Planning Board.

Also present were Abdullah Al Owais, general manager, Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, and Marwan Al Sarkal, CEO, Al Qasba Development Authority, and other officials.
