Sharjah museums to showcase rich cultural heritage

Sharjah: Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is celebrating the 38th UAE National Day with numerous activities throughout its family of 18 museums in Sharjah and Kalba till Thursday.

The celebrations, which began on Tuesday, include activities that focus on the UAE's heritage and rich history, cultural competitions, traditional dances, family workshops, puppet and theatre shows, seminars and performance of national songs.

Sharjah Maritime and Sharjah Aquarium have organised a Maritime Parade while Sharjah Discovery Centre hosted a flag made of flowers and a mural that pays tribute to the nation at the Sharjah Art Museum.

A seminar on the ‘Sound of Emirati Identity' was held at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation.

Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah Archaeology Museum, Sharjah Natural History and Botanical Museum and Sharjah Science Museum are also hosting various events for visitors and their families including workshops and games.

A parade and various activities, including best traditional dress competition and poetry and cultural sessions, were held in Kalba in cooperation with Kalba Ladies Club, Kalba Arts Centre and Bait Shaikh Said Bin Hamad Al Qasimi.

"The UAE National Day celebrations reiterate the importance of unity in thinking and the commitment to work towards the socio-economic growth of the nation," said Manal Ataya, Director General, SMD.
